Annadale Striders won a close Malcolm Cup team race from Ballymena and Antrim AC and Willowfield at Ballyclare with another blistering performance from Paul Rowan claiming the individual title for Willowfield. North Down had no team in the Malcolm Cup but there were good results for the runners in the other races. Jessica Craig and Lauren Scott were 2nd and 4th in the Under 15 girls, Nicola Simpson was an excellent 2nd in the Under 17 girls, Darren Kelly was 3rd Under 13 boy as well as having two winning games of Rugby beforehand while Robin Brown was 5th Under 17 boy. George Bell and Geoffrey Weir were the best of the vets with Geoffrey 2nd Over 40 and George 2nd Over 50.
Boys and girls went off together in the age group races. Darren had a good run in the U13 race to fnish 3rd boy in 6.21. In the correspunding girls race Leigh and Claire were 15th and 16th. In the 2 mile U15 race, Jessica and Lauren worked their way up nicely to finish 2nd and 4th in the girls in 13.14 and 13.30. Rachel finished strongly in 10th. Both Robin and Nicola had good runs in the U17 races, Robin getting 5th and Nicola an excellent 2nd.
Vets and Ladies were also held at the same time. Geoffrey was up among the first three in the opening lap but lack of recent racing probably caused him to drop back but he still claimed 2nd O40 prize. George on the other hand worked his way through the field for 6th overall and also claimed a second prize, this time O50. Tony Wall ran well for 15th overall while other vets were Marcus McAuley, Norman Lellywett, David Seaton, Fred Murdock and Richard Belshaw.
