Tom Reynolds (Brunel) was North Downs most prominent competitor taking part in no fewer than 5 events over the 3 day BUSA championships held this year at the Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow. Also competing at the championships were David Robb (Brunel), Philip Browne (Bath) and John Saulters (Queens Belfast).
The first day of the championships saw Tom begin with the discus where he finished 11th with 34.74m. Also competing on the Saturday was John who qualified for the semi-finals the next day 3rd in his heat with a new pb of 49.69s.
Sunday brought cold windy weather with at times torrential rain which saw the championships delayed by an hour. In his semi-final John ran a disappointing 50.57s. Tom and Philip were both competing in the long jump with Tom?s best being a 6.51 jump (+1.1) and Philip jumping 5.91m (+2.3). Tom competing in the 110m hurdles finished 4th in his heat into a strong headwind 16.88s (-3.8) and in the shot he just missed out on the points finishing 9th with a best of 10.94m.
The final day of the championships saw David Robb compete in the high jump with a clearance over 1.80m placing him 11th equal, although with a recent change in coaches this was to be expected.
