North Down AC were also represented at We Run Wild NI’s “April Showers” Marathon starting and finishing in Whitehead and taking in the famously hilly course around Islandmagee on Sunday 16th April. Mark Weir, better known for everything from 800m on the track through Hill and Dale races to 100 mile plus ultra-marathons, basically anything except a marathon, finally ran his first marathon. And he won it! Mark finished in first place in 3:51:39. He didn’t stay too far from hills though, pointing out that while Boston has one Heartbreak Hill and 257 m of elevation, Islandmagee has 5 Heartbreak Hills and 710m of climbing!
