North Down AC’s Matt Ormesher and Donald Smith joined their clubmates from Peninsula Triathlon Club at 26extreme’s The Wall duathlon at the Silent Valley in the Mournes on Saturday 20th May. The race involved a 3k trail run in Silent Valley followed by a 45k looped cycle course from Silent Valley to Newcastle, Bryansford and the Moyad Road back to Silent Valley before the athletes swapped bike shoes for trail shoes and backpacks for another 10k trail run taking in Wee Binnian, Slieve Binnian and a tricky descent to the Ben Crom dam before joining the road back to Silent Valley. Punctures ended Donald’s involvement in the race but Matt cycled and ran strongly to finish in 3:20.
