4 of North Down AC’s runners packed wetsuits and bikes as well as running gear to travel to North Wales for the Snowman Triathlon on Saturday 29th and Sunday 31st July. Claire Scott and Louise Watson opted for the sprint distance triathlon on Saturday with a cold 750m swim in the freshwaters of Llynnau Mymbyr under the watchful eye of Snowdon before a 27k twisty, technical, hilly bike course through the mountains of north Wales. Once off the bikes the 6.1k run finished with a long uphill trail section. Ladies Captain Claire finished as 2nd F50 in 2:27:29 and Louise completed the gruelling course in 3:12:17. As the weather deteriorated overnight Saturday’s supporters and triathletes swapped roles with Claire and Louise cheering on Matt Ormesher and Neill Dickson in wet and extremely windy conditions as they tackled the “Legend,” the half-Ironman distance triathlon, where the swim distance was 1900m followed by a 95k cycle involving nearly 3000m of climbing and a half marathon. Both experienced Ironman triathletes, Matt and Neill agreed this was the toughest event they had ever done. Matt was first to finish in 8:35:19 and Neill completed the distance in 9:39:27.
