The Inaugural London International Cross Country, part of the UK Cross Challenge series took place at Parliament Hill, London incorporating the Home Countries International and area match. It also included the World Cross Country selection for the 1st senior man and woman, and selection for the British athletes wishing to compete in the World Universities Cross Country Championships in February.
A top level quality domestic field from the UK competed over the multiple 2k lap course. It is rare that the home countries and area teams get to do battle over cross country so this added to the prestige of the event.
North Down AC’s Craig McMeechan was one of 4 men selected for the senior NI & Ulster team. Craig finished in 66th place overall and the second man from his team completing the gruelling 5 lap 10k course in 33:46. Andrew Milligan of NorthBelfast Harriers was his first team mate to finish in 32:25 and Conal McCambridge who also represents NBH finished in 34:45. The 3 scoring members of the team along with Chris Fielding of City of Derry Spartans took 7th place against the best cross country runners in the country.
