Carlingford Half Marathon and 10k, 02/03/24

A tough hill at the start and strong headwinds in the last 5 miles of the Carlingford Half marathon and 10k races through Carlingford and the picturesque Cooey Peninsula with views across the lough to the Mournes tested runners to their limits on Saturday 2nd March. Despite tough conditions 7 North Down AC athletes made it into the top 15 finishers in the men’s race, all finishing under 80 minutes with Ashley Dixon 2nd in 1:13:42 and Dale Murray 3rd in 1:16:06. Fiona McQuillan finished 2nd in the women’s race in 1:28:06. Following the podium pair in the men’s race were Matty McParland 1:16:40, Ross Murray 1:17:46 , Ricky Jordan 1:18:15, Jonathan Gibson 1:19:15 and Thomas Steele 15th in 1:19:21. Aaron McAuley 1:24:05, Clair Quigley 1:32:00, Brian Geddes 1:35:13, Matt Ormesher 1:41:56 and Neill Dickson 1:52:28 all ran excellent races on a tricky course too. In the 10k race Dean Varley paced his partner Rebecca Jordan to joint 48:05 finishes.
