Saturday 9th March saw the culmination of the all Ireland schools’ cross-country competition with the fiercely competitive final held just outside Dublin.
In the minor girls Isla Wiltshire and Coco Smith (both Sullivan Upper) were 51st and 56th respectively, whilst Freya Lowry (Methodist College Belfast) was 80th. The best performance of the day came in the junior boys, where Alex Downey (Bangor Grammar) finished 11th. This superb result qualified Alex for the Irish team at the GB international but unfortunately the qualifying GB age standards are not the same and his July birthday renders him ineligible. In the intermediate girls Holly Blease and Anna Moran (both Sullivan) finished 39th and 72nd respectively. Finally in the senior boys Oliver Playfair and Luke McDowell (again both Sullivan) were 54th and 66th respectively.
These were great results and a fitting end to the cross-country season.
