Malcolm Cup XC, 02/02/25

The Malcolm Cup XC, postponed from its original November date at the Queen’s Playing Fields in November by the first of this winters’ storms, finally took place in Ormeau Park. Athletes were treated to a flatter course than they might have had at the QUB playing fields although the recent rain ensured plenty of sticky mud to challenge all the runners.

In the 2 mile U15 boys’ races Seb Mair was 6th  in 11:45 and James Blease came 12th in 12:22. Caitlyn Dickenson was 4th U15 girl in 13:20.

Holly Blease was 2nd U17 girl in 12:50.

With other races in the calendar and in anticipation of a strong team performance at the Stormont XC next Saturday only Alex Donald raced in the 4 mile race finishing 19th in 22:19.

Simon Boyle raced in the 3 mile vets race crossing the line in 17:59 while Terry Eakin was 1st M75 in 20:14.

Ladies captain Claire Scott ensured a full squad of North Down AC girls lined up for the senior women’s race over 3 miles. Tara McDonough was the first of the club’s finishers in 4th place in 17:59 followed by Fiona McQuillan (9th) 18:50, Clair Quigley 19:57, Valerie McDonough 20:26, Glynis Boyle 21:02, Lindsay Dounlton 21:08 and Amy Andrews 21:46.
