Michael McConkey did best of the three North Down throwers who took part in the U23/U20 International and Inter Regions Match at Derby. Michael finished 2nd in the U23 javelin with a throw of 58.08m. Jeremy Harper was 4th in the U23 discus with 41.40m. In the U20 Match, Richard Lockhart was 4th in hammer with 44.89m and 5th at shot with 11.33m. Though in an U20 competion, Richard’s 44.89m was with a 7.26 Kg hammer and this throw extends further his North Down Senior Record.
Pickings were slim for the small Northern Ireland squad with the only win coming from Laura Kerr, Michael’s training partner, who won the womens javelin with 46.31m. Caolan Flanagan was 3rd on countback after the first four all jumped 2.00m.
