The Woodie’s Irish U20 and U23 Championships took place in Tullamore on Sunday with conditions good but very windy. In the U20 discus Beth Wilson took silver with 40.55 m, her second best throw after her recent 41.05m in Bangor. Three more North Down athletes took part in the U23 events with silver in discus going to Kathy Hetherington with 38.48m. Another silver went to Rachel Gibson in the 1500m in a time of 4:49.38 min, her best since 2009. Hannah Lewis has missed a lot of training time due to exams and a foot injury and has cut out long jump for the present. She ran in the 200m and was 5th into a 2.1m headwind in 25.40 sec.
