Malcolm Cup XC

Torrential rain on the way up amazingly seemed to miss Ballyclare but the course was very heavy after all the recent weather. A good turnout from the club was spread amongst the events and after last weeks road race numbers it was good to see the women also out in force on the country. Man in form Paddy Hamilton won the Malcolm Cup race for the promoting club with top nine finishes for North Down from Francis Marsh and James Budde.

The male veterans scene is in flux this season with over 35′s now recognised and various formats being tried to include them. This time there were two vets races, a 5 miler for youngsters and a 3 miler for the slightly more mature. Tony Wall, Jarvis McAvoy and Simon Cummings ran in the 5 miler while in the 3 mile Horwell Cup David Seaton, Brian Smith and Norman Lellyett were 2nd, 3rd and 4th M60 behind Gerry Lynch with Hugh Young 1st M65.

At the other end of the age scale Harry Heyburn and Daniel McAllen were 10th and 13th U13 boys and Clare Scott 5th U15 girl. Jessica Craig and Lauren Scott were 3rd and 4th U17 girls and Jordan Neil, John Carlisle and Robin Brown 5th, 6th and 10th U17 boys.

In the Ladies Open Stephanie Hambling was 10th with Hilary Kernaghan 12th and Kerry Iveston 13th , Nicola Simpson 14th, Pauline Mossey 16th and Kay Murphy 20th making a useful squad.
