Womens Championships

[Not a valid template]North Down women had a great afternoon in Castle Park with the Juniors winning the Under 20 Championship for the third successive year and the Vets team taking the silver medal. In the Intermediate Championship (the equivalent of the Mens Junior), the combined team of vets and juniors were third.  In a complicated affair with all three races together vet Karen Marshall of St Annes was first finisher and first vet and Michelle Sturm of Omagh won the Junior and Intermediate titles. North Down won the Junior race, were third to Lagan Valley and Abbey in the Intermediates and were second to Lagan Valley in the Vets with City of Derry third. The Intermediate team race was a close affair with five points separating the first four teams.

[Not a valid template]Though technically in different races, the close packing of the North Down girls meant there was a strong element of group running. Probably predictably the juniors went off faster, the vets caught up and the juniors had the faster finish. Hilary Kernaghan was first across the line in 18.47, befitting one with a plane to catch,  scoring 9th Inter and 10th Vet.  Lauren Scott ran strongly in 18.52 and was 4th Junior and 10th Inter.  Stephanie Hambling was a place behind in the Inters in 19.02 and 12th Vet. Nicola Simpson with a fast finish led Jessica Craig only to be pipped by Katie Hewitt with an even faster finish so Katie with 19.31 was 7th Junior (but had not been included in the Inter entry), Nicola with 19.32 was 8th Junior and with 14th got the last Inter scoring place. Jessica with 19.42 was 9th Junior, Debbie Matchett was 15th Vet with 19.45, Kerry Iveston 10th Junior in 20.08 and Roma McConville 22nd Vet in 21.20. Simple enough really.
