Along with many other clubs North Down had nowhere near enough athletes available to cover all events in the opening round of the Young Athletes League and the use of UK qualifying dates worked against us with some athletes going direct to the U15 age group and others having only one year in the U17″s. Covering what we could U13 girls were 4th in their match, U15 and U17 girls both 2nd, U13 boys 4th, U15 and U17 boys 4th. Overall from the two matches, boys are 5th and girls equal 5th in mid table but well in the qualifying zone. Despite the cold there were some good performances with girl sprinters and hurdlers and boys middle distance runners all doing well.
Other Sportsplex users did well with Regent House covering well to win all three boys age groups and the two younger girls groups to lead the Boys table and be second in the Girls. Maggi Donnelly of Mid Ulster who trains in Bangor on Saturdays blitzed the girls hammer record with a big pb of 37.72m.
