The 300m has come under serious attack in recent years from the current crop of girl sprintrs with Kim Shaw, Alison Lavery and Hannah Lewis all having a big impact. Whether this will transfer to the far harder 400m remains still in the future but meanwhile Kathryn Colwell has joined the 300m party. On Thursday at Lagan Valley Young Athletes Meet No 3 at Mary Peters, Kathryn won the 1991-2 race by over 3 seconds in 42.0, second fastest only to Hannah by a North Down girl over the distance. Her brother Steven ran 12.8 and 39.5 secs at 80m and 250m hurdles and triple jumped 10.09m.
