[Not a valid template]The cross country season opened with a real toughie at the Billy Neill Soccer Centre for the Comber Cup which incorporated the trials for the Vets International.. It was a beautiful day but recent rains on the hilly course meant there was no place to hide paticularly in the 5 miler for the bulk of the vets. Tony Wall was first North Down man home with 9th M45 with John Quiery 11th but the best category was the M60 age group won by Gerry Lynch of Derry but with Brian Smith, Norman Lellyett, Fred Murdoch and John Monaghan 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th respectively. Hugh Young was first in the M65 age group, held over 3 miles, as was the womens” race where Hilary Kernaghan and Debbie Matchett were 4th and 5th at F40 with Jill Dowie and Sarah Benton 6th and 7th at F35.
There was a good run by Lauren Scott to finish a close 2nd in the U16 girls” race with Jessica Craig 3rd and young Leigh McWha with another good run for 4th.
The Vets International will be held in Falkirk on 18th November.
