Nicola Simpson and Brian Smith continued their good form at the Blue Lough Cross Country, promoted by Newcastle AC which was held on a scenic course in Castlewellan Park. Nicola was a clear winner in the 2 mile under-18 girls’ race in 13 minutes and 46 seconds. A close race for second saw Abbey’s Catriona McCourt edge out Willowfield’s Helena Dalzell with Lauren Scott 4th in 14:37 minutes. Willowfield took the team prize.
For the youngsters, Clare Scott and Leigh McWha were 7th and 10th in the girls U14 race and Thomas Simpson was 2nd in the youths U18 race. In the veterans race George Bell was 2nd M50 and Brian Smith, Norman Lellyett and David Seaton filled the first three M60 places. Tony Wall, John Quiery and Simon Cummings all featured as did Jonathan McGrath, John McGarvey and Mark Hopkins in the open race with North Down 2nd team to Mourne Runners. Hugh Young was first M65.
