IAAF Greenmount International – Age Group races

[Not a valid template]As world class athletes gathered on Saturday at CAFRE, Greenmount College, for the 36th IAAF International Cross Country, the day started with some highly competitive age group races. Athletes came from  England, Scotland and particularly the Republic and the North Down Juniors were faced with opposition of a different class. They came out of it very well, particularly when compared with Northern Ireland rivals.

First up was Molly Brown in the U13 girls race who ran an excellent 7th place and was 3rd NI girl. In the equivalent U13 boys race Charlie McNutt (Junior) was 8th and 2nd local. Next up was Craig McMeechan, 27th and 13th of the NI runners.

[Not a valid template]U17 and U20 girls were combined as were the U17 and U20 boys although they were really separate races. The impressive Katie Moore ran in the U17’s and was 8th and the 3rd NI. There were 3 North Down U17 boys with Corey Brown heading Jamie McMeechan and Charlie Quinn. There  were two in the U20 section with Roger Dawson and Mark Angus 19th and 21st but 1st and 3rd Northern Irish.

The Masters race was also included in the preliminary races though most North Down Masters opted to turn out later in the Senior Championships. Michael Roberts did make a late entry and was 29th and 2nd in his M60 class.
