IAAF Greenmount International – NI Ladies Senior Championship

After the opening age group races cane  one of the day’s main events; the International Ladies, incorporating the Northern Ireland Senior Cross Country Championships and the Ladies Masters 40+ 5600m races. The double European XC champion, Fionnuala Britton continued her red-hot form and was  70 metres clear by the end of the first lap.  It was a lead she never lost and she finished ahead of Louise Damen of England and Magdalene Masai of Kenya. North Down’s Jessica Craig was in the Northern Ireland team where she was 2nd scorer to Gladys Ganiel who took the Northern Ireland Senior Championship with Danielle Fegan of Armagh 2nd and Jessica 3rd. North Belfast retained the Team Championship with North Down a close 2nd and Springwell 3rd.

[Not a valid template]Stephanie Hambling has a superb run in 6th and was 2nd North Down scorer. Rachel Gibson was 9th and the scoring quartet was completed by Debbie Matchett who outsprinted Julie Balmer at the finish. In the NI Cross Country League, it was a big day for North Down as the girls came out in force and finished 10 runners and claim maximum bonus points for the first time this season. As City of Derry were pipped into 4th by Springwell, North Down regained leadership of the league and take a 3 point gap into the last round. The last round is the Civil Service Championships at Stormont, virtually home turf for North Down.
