IAAF Greenmount International – Mens Senior Championship

[Not a valid template]The final race of the day, jam-packed with  talent, was the International Men, incorporating the Northern Ireland & Ulster Senior Men’s Cross Country Championships.  Thomas Ayeko (Uganda) and David Bett (Kenya) led from the start and were 1st and 2nd, with  Andy Vernon (Great Britain), taking 3rd from a multinational pack. Stephen Scullion won the Northern Ireland Championship with St Malachy’s taking the Team Championship from Annadale Striders and City of Derry. North Down werea healthy 6th but their 14 finishers were enough to take maximum bonus points and retain 3rd place in the NI Cross Country League with one round to go.

Michael Dyer and Francis Marsh were the North Down leaders with Michael eventually claiming first club finisher. In a tight group of their own, Stephen Wylie got the better of Dennis Scott and Mark Weir while 6th finisher was newcomer Lloyd Hannigan (a belated welcome Lloyd).  Gerry Coy got the better of Nick Irvine and Thomas Simpson in another private war while yet another went the way of Charlie McNutt from Simon Robinson, Steve Wise and Michael Jenkins. John McGarvey defied a heavy cold to finish an excellent team performance with everyone running to their form and contributing.

With one round to go go in the league North Belfast and City of Derry will battle it out. North Down remain in 3rd and take a 4 point lead into Stormont from Annadale and Willowfield.
