North Down AC Annual General Meeting

At a well-attended AGM on Wednesday evening at Bangor Sportsplex, the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer all reported another successful year in 2012. Roy Kerr came to the end of his three year tenure as Club Chairman and was praised and thanked by his successor for overseeing a successful period. Former Vice Chairman Paddy McGrattan  then took over the.  Kathy Hetherington  retained her role as Ladies Track and Field Captain with Sarah Benton  taking over as Ladies Endurance Events Captain from Ange Perrott.. John McGarvey remains Mens Endurance Events Captain as does Kenny Elliott as the Track & Field. Other officers were re‑elected. Andrew Muir become PRO and Valerie Hamilton was elected to the Committee.

Reports on the recent year were recorded by the Secretary and Treasurer both emphasising the healthy position of the club.  The Secretary;s report cab be downloaded or read as a pdf file.

The club continued to promote events, with the Crawfordsburn Trail Race, the Aurora Bangor Classic 10K and a series of track and field meetings all proving very successful. The Senior Track Team had a hugely promising start, easily retaining the Northern Ireland Team Trophy and leading the Woodie’s All Ireland League through the qualifying stages. Unfortunately injuries, call‑ups and work commitments caught up with them at the final. The Young Athletes’ League team also suffered, the Olympics causing a reduced season with league reduced to two qualifying rounds. Both were very early in the year when a lot of our athletes were unavailable.

In the endurance events, the year went very well for the men but the womens’ team was outstanding. Ange has been Captain for three years and has overseen the girls’ profile rise dramatically to the highest level. We wish Sarah all the best in the position and that the momentum can continue.
