Irish Schools Championships

It was poor weather at Tullamore with unseasonal cold and blustery conditions but there was some good athletics. The North Down girls in particular had a good day and at Senior level, Amy Foster retained her 200m title in 24.33 sec and Sophie Reynolds won the 100m hurdles in a pb of 15.67 sec. Alison Lavery had an event clash and had to forgo the high jump but collected bronze at 400m in 61.24 sec. At 400m hurdles Katie Hewitt was just run out of 3rd but broke her own club record with 67.68 sec. Lauren Scott was 6th at 800m.

There was disappointment among the Senior boys with Jordan Neil 4th at 1500m in 4:02.97 and David Keys 4th and 6th at discus and hammer.  At Intermediate level Hannah Lewis was 2nd at 200m in a pb of 24.77 sec and retained her long jump title with a first jump of the day of 5.67m (+ 0.88). There was a silver medal double in the Intermediate boys from Ben Reynolds with two pb”s – 14.07 sec at 100m hurdles and 3.80m at pole vault where he lost on countback.

In the 800m Mark Patterson was 3rd and Niall Robinson 4th in 2:02.3 and 2:02.9, good runs in the conditions. The Juniors had two wins with Kerrie Craig winning high jump with 1.50m and Gareth Irvine winnind discus with 37.25m.Alison, Sophie, Katie and Cathy Thom also collected a siler medal for Sullivan Upper in the Senior 4 x 100m and Hannah anchored Bloomfield to a bronze in the Inter 4 x 100m as well as success in the Intermediate Girls Team Trophy.
