Age Group Championships 1st Day, U14 and U15

The good weather continued at the Antrim Stadium on Saturday for Day 1 of the Northern Ireland and Ulster Age Group Championships with events for U14 and U15. It was  a pretty poor entry numberwise from the North Down athletes considering the numbers at training but those who did compete were conspicuous on the podium.  Aaron Sexton won U14 high jump and 200m and was 2nd at 80m. Oliver Wakefield won U15 long jump and was 2nd at 100m.  Lucy Martin and Holly Brannigan were 2nd and 3rd at U15 hurdles and Lauren Hamilton won the U14 hammer and Finlay Greer, the smallest U14 javelin thrower took silver..

Isobel Meharg has been overshadowed a bit at U15 level by Olivia Cumming and Saskia Greer but at U14 level she bloomed with 2nd at 80m and 3rd at 200m after leading the qualifiers. Molly Longstaff just missed the long jump podium with 4th and reached the 80m final. William Hamilton was 5th in the long jump and went out at the semis in the 80m. Still it was a good showing by all the club athletes who entered.
