Several athletes from the club were at Tullamore on Saturday for the Schools Interprovincial (Tailteann Games) with pleasant weather conditions after a cool start to the day. Competing at U17 representative level way above his age group, Oliver Wakefield had his 2nd pb of the week, this time in long jump where he was within a whisker of 6m. Oliver was 5th with 5.97m. Other pb’s came in the girls javelin where Sophie Cree and Elleana Hull were 4th and 6th with 28.19 and 27.74m. Alex Catherwood recovered somewhat from a recent slump to finish joint second in the high jump with 1.60m whereas Sarah Connolly was 5th this time with 1.55m.
Aaron Corbett was in the winning Ulster 4 x 100m relay team and also did the long jump where he was 8th with 5.59m. In addition to the javelin, Elleana was three hundreds of a sec from a 200m pb with 26.84 sec. Mark Burton was a good 3rd at triple jump with 12.48m and Michael Gaffney was 5th at javelin with 46.77m.
