Open Crawfordsburn Trail Race

On Wednesday 14th August, the club hosted the annual Open Crawfordsburn 5k Trail Race, well supported by club runners. Persistent rain beforehand cleared for the race though in the forest dripping trees substituted. Unattached athlete Brian Young (18:25 min), a second place finisher at this year’s Bann 10k, narrowly beat young Willowfield runner Ryan Holt (18:27). North Belfast Harrier Simon Reeve took 3rd place in 18:54. The womens race was all North Down with Jessica Craig a comfortable winner in 20:27; Jessica was followed across the line by Kerry Speers and Katie Moore, both of whom ran well, with triathlete Kerry covering the distance in 21:05 and Katie 22:09.

North Down runners did well in the catefgories. Fourth woman Ange Perrott was 1^st F35, Andrew Muir 2^nd M35, Simon Robinson and Jill Aicken 1^st M40 and F40 while Marie Devine was 2^nd F45. First North Down runner home was Corey Brown who was 6^th in 19:57 and won the MJ prize.

Prize awards alternated between Mayor of North Down Andrew Muir and Club Chairman Paddy McGrattan. The Mayor, who claimed to have received his first athletic prize, presented a pair of Mayoral Shields to the winners, ensuring a perpetual Mayoral Legacy.
