Northern Ireland & Ulster Relay Championships close the Domestic Track Season

[Not a valid template] On Sunday, more than seventy teams entered the Northern Ireland and Ulster Relay Championships at the Derry Templemore Track, hopes of records blown away by the cold fierce winds down the back straight. Nevertheless, there was an excellent day of racing, with North Down well represented in the wide choice of events available. There was Championship Status at 4 x 100m, 4 x 300/400m and 3 x 800m and of these North Down won titles at 4 x 100m at U15 boys, U15 girls and the Blue Ribband Senior Women level, the U15 boys 4 x 300m and 2nd 3 x 800m.

[Not a valid template]As well as the normal competition relays, City of Derry added some fun and mixed relays to keep everyone busy. The 4x200m Mixed Relays was entretaining, with the format allowing for two boys and two girls running in any order. Positions changed  rapidly from leg to leg but North Down won the tactical battle, going off girl, boy, girl, boy while the rest went boy, girl, girl, boy. When Saskia Greer managed 2nd in her opener, that was the U15 done with Aaron Sexton, Olivia Cumming and Oliver Wakefield still to go. The U17 event went similarly with Molly Brett, Aaron Corbett, Elleana Hull and Chris Jordan. There were also sprint medleys (100m, 100m, 200m and 400m), distance medleys (400m, 1200m, 1500m and 800m) and Swedish Relays (100m, 200m, 300m and 400m) .

In the Championships, at U15 Aaron and Oliver were joined by Ben Stevenson  and Jonny Jordan at 4 x 100m and Reece Simpson and Reece Corbett at 4 x 300m with Martyn QuinnJoel McWilliams and Reece Simpson in the 3 x 800.. Saskia and Olivia were joined by Isobel Meharg and Holly Brannigan, Molly and Elleana by Sarah Connolly and Chloe Johnston. and Aaron and Chris by Mark Burton and Ciaran Farren. Non Championship teams are as in the results.

The closing  event was the combined U17 and Senior girls 4 x 100m when the club U17 team finished 1st overall and took the Senior Championship.

Big thanks for the hard work and effort put in by promoter Eamon Gee and Meeting Director Chris Power and to ANI President Gerry Lynch for prize distribution. And in the North Down camp for Team Manager Roger Sexton. It was a fitting way to close the domestic track season.
