The action continued on News Year Day in the annual “Race over the Glens”, a tough 5½ mile trail race in the hilly Glenariff Forest Park near Waterfoot. The race is tough enough normally but strong winds and heavy rain made it very difficult, the organisers deserving great credit for even getting the race on. Les Wilkinson is a race regular and he headed the North Down contingent with an M55 category win in 45:06 min. Andrew Muir was next in 52:30, probably after a sea swim and a meeting or so. Gary Swenarton, Norman Lellyett, Pat O’Driscoll and Ken Hawtin all ran.
