There was another good turnout of 400 or so runners at Portaferry on Tuesday night for the Festival 10 mile road race. Simon Seaton in 12th and Nick Arkensparr in in 24th led the North Down contingent in the mens race with Ian Atkinson 36th, Gerry Coy 39th, Ean McClure 169th and Hugh Young 190th. In the womens race Debbie Matchett was 9th, Jill Dowie 17th and Sarah Benton 32nd. However John McGarvey and Brian Barron trumped them all by winning the mens 2 x 5 mile relay.
Yorkshire visitor Martin Scaife was the mens winner in 52.46. with Willowfield’s Paul Rowan second in 53.47 and Richard Turkington of Armagh 3rd in 54.08. The Ladies race resulted in another victory for Sperrin’s Karen Alexander in 62.40. with Newtownards girl Amanda Perry second (68.36.) and Lisa Tracy third in 69.52.
