Senior Champinships at a very wet MPT

 

The Senior Championships were held on Saturday at Mary Peters Track and also incorporated the U18 and U19 Championships. Despite the monstrous conditions with heavy rain throughout, there was a big entry with most of the Commonwealth Games canditates being present plus others looking for a final chance to hit the consideration standard. North Down AC high hurdler Ben Reynolds has hit the standard several times and  continued to show form, winning his 110m hurdles event in a fast 13.83secs.  Curtis Woods claimed top spot in the men’s 200m race, clocking 22.38secs for 1st  It was North Down all the way in the 400m as Adam McComb ran a pb of 48.14sec to retain his 2013 title with Andrew Mellon 2nd in 48.38sec. Michael Dyer was 2nd at 800m with seasons best of 1:54.17min. Sarah Connolly was the pick of the North Down girls with 2nd at 100m hurdles in 15.42sec and 1st at long jump with 5.35m, taking the senior and age group medals Laura Saulters was 3rd at triple jump with 10.64m.

Laura Potts at discus (24.17m) and Sophie Cree at javelin (30.76m) were other age group athletes who out-performed seniors, both finising 2nd overall.. Elleana Hull at shot with 7.99m was 2nd U18 and 3rd overall and was 4th overall in the 200m qualifying and 3rd in the final with a seasons best of 27.04sec. Chloe Johnston was 4th at 400m and U18 Champion. Kurt Simpson was 2nd at U19 discus with 29.81m. Jessica Craig, Molly Bret and Kenny Elliot were others who permed well in atrocious weather – did we mention it was wt?
