U16 and U17 Championships

[Not a valid template]The Northern Ireland and Ulster Track and Field Championships were completed on Saturday with the U16 and U17 Championships, this time at Antrim and this time in glorious conditions. Oliver Wakefield was a double title winner taking the U16 long jump with 5.93m and the 100m hurdles in a pb of 14.80 sec. Other winners were Michael Gaffney at U17 javelin with 50.78m and Shoshanna Hull at U16 discus with a pb of 18.83m. Shoshanna had  another pb at javelin with 4th in 22.98m and Michael was 4th at 300m with 24.72 sec. Silver medals went to Olivia Cumming with 62.50 sec at U17 400m, toSaskia Greer at U16 100m in 13.20 sec and to Kirsty O’Neill at U16  high jump with 1.45m. Kirsty and  Olivia also had 4th’s at 100m and 200m respectively.


Also in 4th were Craig McMeechan at U16 1500m in a big pb of 4:28.77 min and Reece Simpson at U17 1500m in 4:46.6. Mollie Brown also had a 1500m pb of 5:09.0 min in the U14 event which was held back from the previous weekend. Another event from a week ago was the Senior pole vault which had been cancelled due to the conditions. Peter Glass celebrated his Commonwealth Games selection by winning the Senior pole vault, equalling his 4.80m pb. Holly Brannigan, Ben Stevenson and Reece Corbett wer other North Down athletes who performed well.
