Michael McConkey extended his javelin pb at the AAI Games in Sligo, coming 2nd with 58.33m. Brendan McConville found the hurdles cancelled and transferred to the 100m, getting a legal pb of 11.53 with 3rd in the B race. Also entered in HJ and PV, Brendan found them on at the same time at opposite ends of the track. Brendan had to be satisfied with 1.90m in the jump coming 2nd but won the vault with a new pb of 4.80m.
Peter Abernethy also vaulted but used the stadium poles which were much too soft for him and his 3.00m was well down on his 3.40m at the Ulster Schools.
With a pb on the first throw, Michael was able to try for a biggie but though he exceeded 60m twice, both were nulled by stepping over the line. It should not be long coming.
Paul Curran was also in action at the weekend at Bedford in the Inter Counties with a TJ of 13.73m.
