County Down Schools XC

County Down Schools were a victim of the severe weather two weeks ago and the cross country championships were postponed until Wednesday 18th. They were rewarded with perfect conditions on the admittedly difficult Delamont Park course though the delay meant the Ulster finals are nearly here.. The club runners likely to qualify for the Ulsters did so with relative ease. Podium finishes came from Glen Willis, who ran error-free to win the Junior Boys, and from Jemma Speers and Brian Barron who were second  in the Minor Girls and Senior Boys respectively. Jordan Stokes had a good shot at bronze in the Seniors but was overhauled on the final hill and Niall Robinson was 5th in the same race after earlier disputing the lead. Bangor Grammar retained the Senior team title and will be reinforced at Mallusk by the unavailable Mark Patterson. Harry Speers, Roger Dawson, Mark Armstrong, Josh Lowry, Clare Scott and Kayleigh Walsh all got through safely to the finals.
