At the Northern Ireland and Ulster Age Group Indoor Championships in Magherafelt on Saturday, North Down had three athletes, all coming away with a medal. Mark Patterson produced the gold, winning the U19 400m in 51.60 secs, the final being run very late. Katie Dickson got the silver in the U18 triple jump with 10.62m after leading but missing out on the last round. Jordan Stokes won the bronze in the U18 800m, running 2:04.5 sec. At Sheffield in the British Universities Indoor Championships, Phil Browne (Bath) long jumped 6.46m in the qualifying round, though he only had 6.17m in the final. Also in Sheffied, Kerry Iveston ran 11:32.72 in the 3000m heats. As the indoor season winds down, the outdoor season was underway in America. In Louisiana, McMeese State opened their seaon in windy and very cold conditions with their own Cowboys Relays which they won easily.  Michael Dyer won the 800m in 1:55.94 min and took 3rd in the 1500m in 4:11.64 min.
