Eva Massey opened her season after injuries and retained her shot title. Paul Curran had two seconds and earned a call-up by Ireland to the Europa Cup. Mike Bull‘s club shot record finally fell to double medallist Jeremy Harper along with his own recent discus record and Michael Dyer extended his 800m club record. John Saulters, David Robb and Brendan McConville all medalled.

Eva made her long awaited return and putted 14.85m to retain her title. Paul was second in both triple jump with 14.00m and long jump with a pb of 6.80m. He was subsequently added to the Ireland team in triple jump.

Jeremy, Brendan and Michael McConkey have all recently threatened Mike Bull’s 13.15m club shot record and Jeremy putted 13.17m for 3rd in the shot to take it, also finishing 2nd in discus extending his own recent record to 42.90m. There were some good throws competition and Michael had 57.56m for 5th in javelin. Richard Lockhart was 5th in hammer with 36.14m, 7th in shot with 6.80m and 8th in discus with 30.24m.

Michael Dyer was 5th in a classy 800m with a new pb (and club record) of 1.54.90. James Budde wanted an equally truly run race but in a scrappy tactical affair he was 6th in 4.13.96. John Saulter looked good in the 400m and made all the running but was overhauled close to the line to finish 3rd in 50.76 secs.

In a close high jump, David Robb was 2nd with 1.95m while Brendan was 4th with the same height. He was also 3rd in the vault with 4.70m, a height which would have made all the difference a week ago. Peter Abernethy vaulted 3.40m for 6th.

Stacey Mullan‘s frustrations continued when she was the only girl declared at closing time. In the middle of exams she went home rather than wait some hours for the walkover. Caroline Hussey was 7th at 400m with 64.53 secs.
