The SIAB Schools International, sponsored by Aviva, took place in Ireland on Saturday and for the first time in this incarnation came North to Antrim. On a very humid showery day England were again first in boys and girls events and of course overall winners with Ireland runners-up in the same categories. Four North Down athletes made the Irish team, all in field events. The two boys were on fire, both finishing 4th and both demolishing their pbs. Matthew Martin threw 54.49m in the javelin, smashing the club U17 record by a good margin. Gareth Irvine, also 4th, threw 45.31m in the discus coming close to the club record and going 2nd on the all time list. Kathy Hetherington was 6th in her discus with 29.90m and Katie Dickson was 7th in triple jump with 10.73m.
