In the Celtic Junior International at Carmarthen on Saturday, North Down had four representatives in the Ulster team plus coach Paddy McGrattan. By far the most successful was Paddy’s thrower Matthew Martin who dominated the U16 javelin. On his opening throw, Matthew added half a metre to his pb from the recent Schools International to win with 54.98m and extend his club U17 record. Kathy Hetherington was third at U18 discus, with 32.49m, Beth Wilson fourth at U16 discus with 25.31m and Kerrie Craig fourth at U18 high jump with 1.55m. Ulster were fourth overall in the standings depite the U16 boys finishing second while the team representing Ireland finished first.
