“End of Season” Awards

[Not a valid template]Mark Patterson and Hannah Lewis were the North Down AC Athletes of 2009 with Matthew Martin Top Young Thrower and Katie Dickson retaining the Top Jumper award. Friday night saw the annual end of the track season awards night at Bangor Sportsplex.. The 2009 trophies were on display and Standards Awards were awarded along with trophies for the recent Club Championships.Mark has had an oustanding season with U20 club records at 400m and 800m and a share of the senior 800m one but the highlight was selection for the European Junior Championships where he reached the 800m final. Hannah has been recovering from serious illness but not before winning the long jump silver medal and reaching the 200m final in India at the Commonwealth Youth Games. Katie took her club triple jump record to 11.09m and Matthew took the U17 javelin record to 56.69m and both have been hugely successful in championships and representative events.

Winning performances at the recent Club Championships came from: U13 Boys Michael Gaffney, 13 Girls Jemma Speers, U15 Boys Glen Willis, U17 Boys Matthew Martin, U17 Girls Laura Hamilton, 20 Boys Jordan Stokes, U20 Girls Natalie Steele and Veteran Men Gerry Coy. McCain Young Athletes” League  “Athlete of the Match” Tee Shirts were given to one boy and one girl for each of the qualifying rounds. These went to  Round 1 (Antrim) Louis Atkinson and Jemma Speers; Round 2 (Derry) Glen Willis and Brogan Marsh; Round 3 (Belfast) Nico Espana and Beth Wilson. Weglarz Trophies covering club support and improvement went to Ellie Anna Hull, Beth Wilson, Niall McGrattan, Matthew Stockton and Mark Widdowson.

Once again we have several club stalwarts heading off to Uni and best wishes go with them. Most track athletes are now on their break until October while middle distance ones are in the Valentines or Ward Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays while the light holds.
