A District Track and Field

The District Schools track and field championships took place on 4th May  with the Intermediate and Senior age group from A district competing at Mary Peters track. There were many medal winners from North Down athletes including Holly Brannigan and Beth Crosby, 1st and 2nd in the Inter 300M with Holly running a pb time, and Beth also winning the Hammer. Molly Longstaff came 3rd in the Inter Long jump and 2nd in the 100M with Saskia Greer taking bronze in the Senior girls 100M.
Ollie Wakefield won the Senior boys Long jump.  Aaron Sexton and Aaron Blackmore dominated the Inter boys 100M & 200M with 1st and 2nd in both and then made sure the Inter relay team won the 4 x 100M. Reece Simpson came 2nd in the Senior boys 800M and 1500M and was also part of the Senior relay team who took 3rd. Finally Craig McMeechan comfortably won the Senior boys 5000M.

The mini, minor and junior age groups competed on Thursday 12th May after a preliminary set of races on 6th May where the leading 2 and remaining fastest runners qualified.  Having already qualified for the junior 800M final Murphy Miller used her speed to finish 3rd in the 200M, adding to her individual tally for Antrim. Sarah Moorcroft finished 6th in the same race.  Jakob Swann won the minor boys 800M while Ben Jenkins was 8th.  4 of our athletes were involved in the minor girls 800M with Megan Briggs leading in 2nd, closely followed by Rachel Gillespie in 3rd, Abbie Webster in 5th and Ella Andrews, 8th.  Tara McDonough managed a 3rd place in the mini girls 800M and Adam Skelly 9th in the boys race.

The leading 3 finishers qualify for the Ulster Schools track and field championships at Antrim over the weekend 20/21 May.  NDAC will be represented at Antrim by 14 of our athletes.  Good luck to them all.
