On Sunday the AAI Inter County Championships, incorporaing the trials for the European Cross Country Championships, as well as the Irish Even Age Groups, were held in the North for the first time at the Gransha Hospital Grounds in snowy Derry. North Down”s home-based athletes had prioritised the Seeley Cup on Saturday but there was a quick flying visit from a trio of athletes studying at English Universities. Mark Patterson was 14th in the 6K U20 mens” race in 19:52 min. Lauren Scott was 28th and 6th U23 in the Senior Women 8K in 31:37 min. Robin Brown, wrongly not identified as U23 in the results, was 31st, but 6th U23, in the 10K Senior Mens” race. In the U16 Boys Championship, Glen Willis was 22nd, collecting a Provincial team bronze.
Snow fell throughout but conditions under foot were good for cross country though travel was a different matter.
