The Irish Schools U16 pentathlon team had a remarkable result on Saturday when they finished 2nd at the Emirates Stadium in Glasgow in their section of the Schools International Indoor Combined Events Championship. They only had 3 effective scorers as their 4th scorer retired after the opening 60m hurdles. That meant a well earned silver medal for Aaron Sexton who was joint 7th individual and joint 2nd Irish scorer. Aaron’s 3026 points consisted of a 8.93 sec 60m hurdles (761 points), 5.32m long jump (445), 23.23 sec 200m (764), 9.20m shot (438) and 2:08.91 800m (618).
Ireland was 2nd to England in the U18 girls, U16 boys and U18 boys section and easily won the U16 girls. Combining all 4 groups gave England a narrow win of 55, 40428 points to 40373.
In his group, Aaron had the best Irish result in all 3 track events. All his 5 results plus his totals were personal bests and all bar shot were club U15 indoor records.
