The Northern Ireland and Ulster Age Group Championships were held over the weekend in Antrim with Saturday featuring events for U14 (b 1997) and U15 (1996) athletes. Both Andrew Kennedy and Adam Brennan did a lot of events at U14 level and seemed to be everywhere. Andrew was 2nd at 80m in 10.73 sec, 2nd in the shot (2.72 Kg) with 9.81m and 4th at discus (0.75 Kg) with 22.37m. Adam was 3rd at 800m in 2:29.68 min, 6th at 200m in 29.91 sec and 6th at long jump with 4.15m. Ellen Robinson was 7th in the U14 girls 80m in 11.40 sec. At U15 level Niall McGrattan won the javelin (500g) with 40.25m and was 3rd at shot (3.25 Kg) and Abbey Taylor was 3rd at 1500m in 5:16.80 min. Alex Catherwood was another 3rd, at high jump with 1.45m (the same height as 2nd) and 5th at shot (3.25 Kg). Yes the throwing weights are that low, a consequence of the Championships being joint and leading to an All Ireland Final.
