The AAI All Irish Age Group Championships opened in Tullamore on Saturday with the reasonable early weather degenerating into wind and rain. For North Down it was the javelin throwers who once more led the way with pbs for the two Matthews, Mathew Martin winning at U16 with 51.11m and Mattew Stockton second at U15 with 39.20m. Karl Lamont was 8th U18 with 42.68m. Mark Widdowson missed out on a long jump medal with 5.15m for fourth in the U15 event and he was also sixth at 100m in 12.58 sec (12.40 sec in the heats). On Sunday,equally wet, windy and miserable, Niall McGrattan was the club representative and he added another javelin medal in the U13 event, third with 35.52m. Ulster had all three medals in this event.
