All Ireland League Round 2

North Down seniors doubled up after the Northern Ireland Championships and made the long trip to Tullamore for the second and last qualifying round of the All Ireland National League. It was a worthwhile trip as both the Premier Division mens team and the Division 1 womens team repeated the wins in the first round at Antrim. The men led Leevale by 7 points and the women led Meath by a single point, Leevale and Meath being winners in the Southern Division in the opening round. Mens winners were Tom Reynolds at 110m hurdles, Pete Glass at long jump and javelin, Brendan McConville at pole vault and the 4 x 400m team while seconds came from Brendan at 400m hurdles and shot, Michael Dyer at 1500m, Jordan Neil at 800m )1:54.53) and Ben Reynolds at high jump. Womens winners were Katie Hewitt at 100m hurdles and long jump, Kim Shaw at 400m, Lauren Scott at 800m (2:20.88) and Gemma McAnirn in the discus. Seconds came from Gemma at shot, Janine Munnis at javelin, Laura Laughlin at triple jump, Katie at 400m hurdles and the 4 x 400m team.

The girls thus were overall leaders after two rounds and take the maximum 9 points into the final. Only four teams contested the Premier Men in the other half of the round at Santry where host club Clonliffe had a big win with 127 points and take the overall lead and the 9 points into the final. North Down were second overall and take 7 points in. The final will be at Tullamore on Sunday 27th July in yet another double header as the Young Athletes have their final on 26th July.
