Amy out at Europeans

At the European U20 Championships at Kaunas in Lithuania, Amy Foster was 6th in her 200m heat in 24.73 secs. Amy was 18th fastest overall and was two places away from qualifying for the semi finals. Earlier the team management had wthdrawn her from the 100m in order to concentrate on her favoured 200m event. The 100m final was won by the Polish girl Iwona Brzezinska in a pb of 11.67 secs with 8th place in 11.99, suggesting that with the right draw Amy could possibly have made the final and finished 6th to 8th. In a very intensive Championship, Amy went again in the 4 x 100m relay. The Irish team ran 46.48, a new National Junior Record, for 5th in the semi fiinal, 9th fastest and one place away from finals qualification.

Britain currently head the medals table with 6, 3 of them gold from Germany with 4.

The 200m final was later won by Yuliya Chermoshanskaya of Russia in 23.21 secs with the last runner clocking 24.52 secs.
