Antrim Cross Country

Freezing fog and a rock hard course didn”t deter a quality group of North Down Athletes competing in the recent Antrim XC event. Pick of the bunch was Robin Brown”s fine 23rd place in the mens race in his NI senior debut. In the women”s race, we fielded more than any other club: Lauren Scott (on NI senior debut) coming in 24th, with Roberta Dornan not far behind in 25th, followed by Jessica Craig in 26th. They “came in 3s” again with Stephanie Hambling 30th, Ali Robinson 31st and Debbie Matchett 32nd. That was more than enough to add to the growing list of team successes by winnining the Senior Womens Team Race,  Francis Marsh placed 5th in the mens vets race, but Mark Weir”s 9th place signalled he”s getting back to fitness (after long injury layoff). …..Pick of the age groups were: Abbey Taylor 12th (U15), and Glen willis 17th (U17). Glen was backed up by Mark McCaughey in 44th and Gareth Lyness in 48th, while Jamie McMeechan had a solid 37th place in the U15s. Matthew McMullan finished 21st in the U20 (though his chip failed to register!).
