With very strong fields across the board the Northern Ireland round of the McCain UK Challenge, one of a select number of IAAF events took place at Greenmount College on Saturday Sligo”s Mary Cullen produced a devastating display of front running to destroy the field in the womens international race with Kwenyan Mike Kigan winning the corresponding mens” event. North Down athletes had some good results facing opposion from all over the UK and Ireland.
Glen Willis was 5th in the U15 race, a position which earned him an invite to the Uk Challenge fiinal. Sam McKibben had an excellent reult in the same race with 28th and Adam Brennan stepped up an age group to replace the injured Harry Speers and give the team 7th in the team race. In the vets race Francis Marsh also finished a very good 5th with Mark Weir in 13th registering the M35 prize and Stephen Purdie completing the team which finished 5th.
Stephanie Hambling was outstanding in the Womens senior race and was 1st F40 in the incorporated masters event. The senior races also included the Celtic International and Irish Provincial teams. At U23 level in the Celtic International Robin Brown was 2nd Northern Ireland /Ulster finisher contributing a second place team finish and Lauren Scott was third NI/Ulster finisher with the team third.
