Ards Half Marathon

Constant rain made it a miserable night for officials and spectators alike but for runners, conditions were favourable. Certainly for Robin Brown who smashed his own club half marathon record on Friday night when he was 2nd in 70:47 min in the Ards Half Marathon. Home from Uni on a profitable weekend, Robin and eventual winner Paul Pollock were soon ahead of the field but once Pollock broke away after about 3 miles, there was no change in the running order. Francis Marsh in 10th ran 76:39 min and took the M45 prize. It was North Down all the way in the womens’ race where Julie Balmer and Roberta Dornan took the first two places in 85:51 and 86:54 min while Jill Aicken was 6th and 2nd F40. It was the penultimate race in the ChampionChip Half Marathon Series and the first where it was possible to post a potential winning score. Julie and Francis look to be well on their way to category wins in the series but Roberta is unfortunately not in contention after missing the first two races.
