There was a great turnout last Friday night (26th June) by the club with 12 athletes taking part in the popular and very well organised Ards Half Marathon in which 687 runners took to the streets
As well as the 12 athletes who battled the hills and the heat to run the 13.1 miles there was also great support from fellow team members from the sidelines. First across the line for NDAC was Ben Caughers in 82mins 52secs who was placed a very respectable 13th overall. Next up was Les Wilkinson who is making a strong comeback to running managing the tough course in 1:33:37. Valerie McDonough ran a great time of 1:36:20 to be the first lady across the line. Colin walker wasn’t far behind Valerie running 1:41:42 to take 165th position overall. Eamonn O’Reilly had a good run finishing in 1:41:46 with Lynn Kerr not far behind in 1:47:55 to be the second NDAC lady over the line. Not far behind Lynn was Sarah Benton in 1:49:52 and James Barr running in 1:51:40. Jo Maran had a good run on the challenging course to finish in 335th position in a time of 1:53:07. John McGarvey had another good run to finish in 1:54:55 with Clare Russell finishing in 2:05:38. NDAC legend Pat O’Driscoll finished in 2:50:53 with this race being his 73rd or 74th half marathon which is a magnificent achievement.
Well done to everybody who took part and apologies to anybody who is left off the results list. Thanks to the organisers for outdoing themselves again this year with one of the years best races!
