 Mayor of Ards Borough, Councillor David Smyth, accompanied by Archie Walls, Director of Ards Leisure Services, hosted a reception for the prize winners in the inaugural Ards Triple Series. North Down AC members Douglas Grant and Jill Aicken were respectively winners of the male and female categories with Sarah Benton second female. The Ards Triple Series comprised the Ards Half Marathon, the Portaferry 10 miles and the Ards 5 Mile Challenge. Emma Hingston, Sports Development Officer for Ards Borough Council was delighted that the Series attracted more than a thousand runners and emphasised that it would be repeated in 2011.
The first three men were Douglas, Roy Bill and Kirk Sloan while the first three women were Jill, Sarah and Carol Boal. Kirk Sloan was a junior at the club and is the son of North Down legend Diane Kirk. As befits a member of a cycling dynasty, Kirk is these days better known as a cyclist and triathlete. |
