[Not a valid template]The 2012 Aurora Bangor Classsic took place on Saturday with a thousand runners and an emphatic win for Paul Pollock of Annadale Striders in 30:19 min with Joe McAllister of St Malachy’s AC 2nd in 31:39 and Brendan Teer of East Down AC 3rd in 33:34. North Belfast’s Gladys Ganiel O’Neill was 1st lady in 36:49 with the North Down AC duo of Jessica Craig and birthday girl Julie Balmer 2nd and 3rd in 38:40 and 39:37. With Rachel Gibson 5th, North Down were clear female team winners from North Belfast. North Down men also had a good team result and they were 2nd to St Malachy’s. The scoring team was Michael Dyer in 5th, Francis Marsh 9th and James Budde 11th.
Conditions were dry and sunny though a brisk coastal headwind in the return half of the race probably ruled against pb’s and a slight diversion in Groomsport due to high tides may have lengthened the course a bit. Anyway the home team were not complaining.
Apart from the two team prizes, other North Down successes were individual prizes for Michael, Jessica, Julie and Rachel, 1st M45 for Francis, 1st M70 for Fred Murdoch, 2nd M40 for Mark Weir and 2nd F50 for Lynne Kerr.
